The jungle cat is also known as the swamp lynx although it is not related to the lynx. Scientists believe that domestic cats were derived from the jungle cat.
The jungle cat is is distributed over Egypt, West and Central Asia, South Asia, Sri Lanka and Southeast Asia. It can be found in dry forests, reedbeds along rivers and lakes but is not found in the rain forest. Prefers tall grass deciduous forest and thick brush.
The weight range of the jungle cat is from 9 to 35 pounds. The color of the fur is yellowish-grey to reddish brown with vertical bars on kittens only. They have pointed ears and long legs which makes them resemble the lynx.
